GORDON CHOW ENRICHMENT PROGRAM

Canada-China Cultural Exchange Program

2006 — Sixteen Canadian museum and gallery experts traveled to China to share experiences and meet with their Chinese counterparts. The professional exchanges aimed to explore developing long-term co-operation for exhibition exchange and professional development; increase awareness and promote the diversity and quality of Canadian museums and galleries, their collections, research, exhibitions and programming; and showcase Canadian expertise and best practices in museum management and exhibition development.

Arts and Culture Professional Enrichment

In July 2007 the Fund launched the Gordon Chow Arts and Culture Enrichment Program at the Hunan Provincial Museum.  This new program focuses on the exchange of knowledge and sharing of best practices in areas including: exhibition management, international relations, cultural diplomacy, public programs, marketing and development, and more.  The Fund organized and supported another Canadian mission of 15 museum professionals, volunteers and donors to attend the launch.

The Gordon Chow Canada-China Professional Enrichment Program brought together experts in the arts and culture sector to establish strong global networks and exchange knowledge on exhibition management, international relations, cultural diplomacy, public programs, marketing and development, and more.
In October-November 2007, the Program supported three mid-career professionals from the Hunan Provincial Museum to visit Canada for a three-week behind-the-scenes tour of major museums and institutions in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.

Following the success of this program, many partnerships have flourished and the Fund is now developing new programs. The Fund hopes to see the Arts and Culture Professional Enrichment initiatives expand throughout many parts of the world.
