ABOUT US

The Canadian Fund for International Understanding through Culture (Can4Culture) aspires to strengthen global understanding through the shared experience of culture. Our vision is to bring people together, transcend differences, and celebrate connections. Our aim is to create opportunities for cultural collaboration that transcend national boundaries and cement relationships for Canada by supporting cultural exchange, student exchange and cultivating mutually beneficial relationships, particularly in cultural heritage, art, literature, drama, music, science and history.

The Board is made up of dedicated volunteers and all our activities are supported 100% by committed donors and philanthropists. Our work is well known to the Canadian Departments of Foreign Affairs and Canadian Heritage as well as the Embassy of the Peoples’ Republic of China in Canada as we seek their input and advice.

Since its creation in 2006, the Canadian Fund for International Understanding through Culture (Can4Culture) has successfully organized cultural exchange missions, launched a learning enrichment program and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, for the promotion and strengthening of relationships between the peoples of Canada and China. We have supported and brought together over 60 Canadian and Chinese arts, heritage and science organizations for face-to-face meetings and exchanges. Our enrichment program provides on-site experience for young professionals so they may continue to learn and innovate, as they become global citizens.

LOGO

As a graphic creation, the logo itself manifests this vision, bringing together key elements to form a meaningful whole:

  • The five colours: red, yellow, green, blue, black, are symbolic of the five continents of the world. These colours, and white, appear on all the national flags of the world today.
  • The circle is a universal symbol for understanding.
  • The compass, which originated in 4th century China, is the tool for finding and following direction.
  • The brush strokes bring human culture into play, while also representing the latitudes that reach around the planet.
  • The angle evokes dynamic growth and forward thinking. It is a reminder of the earth s daily rotation about its axis.

As a whole, these elements form a visual representation of the world, brought together by creative cultural endeavour
